Sir Terence Stephenson

Sir Terence Stephenson’s attendance inspires the GMC executive to book a bespoke day.

Having attended our Clinical HF Plus course earlier in 2018, Sir Terence Stephenson was impressed with the quality of teaching and breadth of insight given into human factors in aviation and how they translate into healthcare.

Following his attendance, we were proud to host 8 other senior members of the General Medical Council executive on a bespoke course including Charlie Massey, CEO, Susan Goldsmith, COO, and Paul Buckley, Director of Strategy.

The 8 GMC delegates were mixed with a group of non-GMC healthcare professionals invited from our waiting list, leading to an insightful day of learning and inspiration for all involved. The talk on Just Culture, delivered by Cpt. Harlow was of particular interest to many, with an insightful and lengthy question and answer session afterwards. There was a particular focus on how British Airways has created and fostered a new way of thinking and how they continue to ensure buy-in from all personnel, from new recruits to senior level managers. Could this be the start of a reframing in the way both clinicians and their regulator think in times of error?
